Bumps.............
Part 1
Sometimes there are bumps in the road. You just never know when they're coming or what they're going to be. Sometimes you don't even know when you hit them if they are big bumps or little ones. That's how it's been here the past couple of days.
Solidare's foal came up lame. There was very little heat and some swelling in his right rear fetlock. I checked him over for wounds and took his temperature before putting standing wraps on him. He seemed to be feeling ok but I watched him closely just in case.
Today I didn't really like the way he was acting. He was too subdued when I checked him so I'd asked Dave and Lindsay what they'd seen as well. From what we could tell he's spent most of his day laying down.
By feeding time tonight Dave frantically called me to the barn saying he could see bone. I raced out to find the colt with a badly swollen hock with two wounds. Upon closer inspection those wounds began squirting puss.
The vet just left after taking a sample for a culture to see what we're dealing with. He gave him some powerful antibiotics directly into the hock and tomorrow we'll do ultra sound to see if we can figure out exactly what is compromised. For now it does not look good for Solidare's foal and I can't even believe this is happening...........
