Birthday Surprise!

Yesterday was my birthday. I see other bloggers post about their birthdays and anniversaries and what they've done to celebrate. And I'd like to do that too, so I thought I'd share the birthday cake I recieved from Richard on my cell phone.

I have to tell you it's the first decorated birthday cake I've received in about 50 some years. I don't know whether to laugh or cry over that statement but one thing's for sure. I can appreciate its sentiment and the added bonus it had absolutely zero calories...........not bad for a woman wanting to lose thirty pounds.

To celebrate Richard and I worked horses. Well, what else would two horse crazy fools like us do on a winter's day? We only worked two loads of horses instead of three but six horses is still a lot and mostly it was fun.

The two yearlings are beginning to get an idea of what I'm asking them to do with their feet. And their condition is actually beginning to improve, although we've got a long way to go on that.

Legs is going just down right awesome. The horse just gets better and better each day. By the time show season rolls around we should be ready to go. Nationals is definitely the goal for the two of us this year and hopefully another horse or two.

Vee is beginning to understand what I'm asking her for regarding that left lead. The mare is getting the correct lead often enough now that I'm going to change the focus from the lead to improving the quality of the gait. She's getting a nice lope to the right but that left one has a ways to go to catch up, that's for sure. Once that gets fixed, it'll be time to begin working on frame.

The other two horses worked yesterday were Percy and Hope. Poor Percy probably felt picked on because Richard worked him on the ground. Jessica rode him some in the round pen and then I finished him up outside the pen.

Then Richard worked Hope in the long lines. We're getting ready to do video on her and her brother, Louie, for someone in Texas so he's working on the "final touches." Even thinking about it makes me want to weep.....I love this mare. Selling her was not what I'd hoped to do with her.

That in a nutshell is how I spent my birthday. Doing what I love best.........and that's working with my horses.

  2. LOL gotta love the zero calories part. It's the simple things that count the most. Like last year on my birthday, my daughter had $3 to get me a birthday present. She was talking to the fella in the Baskin & Robbins about a $3 cake (they don't exist) and he turned around and gave her a cake to give to me for my birthday. I thought it was the sweetest thing to do for her. She was thrilled that she was able to give me a cake. I liked her reaction more than the cake. :)

I'm glad you had a good day working your horses. One of these days I'll have to come down and watch...

  3. Fantastyk Voyager, I did finally get a real bday cake tonight that my daughter, Lindsay baked. It wasn't nearly as pretty but it's loaded with calories and tasted pretty darn good. LOL

  4. Lady of Chaos, you're more than welcome to come watch. But I do have one question. I thought you were going to Scotsdale. Whatever happened to that?? And actually, I have more than one, can you help me with my camera? I'm having one heck of a time. LOL

  7. Belated Happy Birthday, and I'm with you on the calories. Besides, I've found that 99% of the time, stuff just doesn't taste near as good as it looks. That is how I am able to resist the donuts at work, when they sit about 6 feet from my desk!

  9. Happy birthday!!!

The 0-calorie cake is a good idea. Glad your daughter baked you a real one too though... :-)

I'm glad to hear that you and Richard are both healing up and back to working those beautiful arabian horses. Keep us posted on Legs and your trips to shows!

  10. Speaking of Scottsdale, I thought I might get to meet Legs there this year. Now I've got to find Oklahoma, or somewhere, to get to enjoy him.

Speaking of Nationals, I've got a retired Arab trainer on Bella.

    Happy Birthday Girlfriend!!

  13. Oh boy so sorry I missed your birthday, I have trouble remembering my family's let alone others LOL. Yep that cake sure looks good and thank Richard for it being calorie free!!!

I am so glad that you have found someone that shares your passion and that you can work with the horses alongside, I know I would be much more involved if I had someone like that here too, but being alone in the barn doesnt help motivate me and I have so many horses with so much potential, it is a waste.

    (((Birthday Hugs))) from me.

I am still trying to catch up on posts, but thought I would start with the latest and then when I get time work on the older ones LOL.

  17. Happy Belated B-day!!

We almost never do cake on B-days in this family. The request is always for one of mom's Apple Pies!! We are greedy about them too, so she always has to make two-one for the family and one just for the birthday person. Yeaaa...we are a little strange-LOL.

MiKael-I just read your comment about your bloodlines...I would love to see you do some. I know very little about Arabian bloodlines, except some of the uber-famous names. But am always anxious to learn more.;)

  21. Happy Birthday Mikael!!! I can't think of anything I would rather do on my birthday then work with horses. Of course on my birthday it's still cold, slushy, sometimes snowy and muddy here. Ugg!

That cake was a howl! That's the kind I should have. 30 pounds, try 40!! lol!

  22. Happy Belated Birthday! It sounds like you had a great one. I can't wait to hear how all your work with Richard is going to pay off this season :)

  23. Wow - great site - I bumbled across it today. The best way to spend a birthday is doing something you love. Lucky you!

  24. I don't know Hope on a personal level, but I could imagine feeling the same way.. especially when you felt like that's not you planned on doing with this mare. So cant fathom why your selling her, but I just hope that where Hope and her brother are going, is a good place, and that where she goes, takes just as good of care of her as you do. Oh and happy birthday! my b-day is in 5 weeks, and I hope my birthday is just as good as yours was! can you send me a virtual cake on my birthday? LOL!
