Rachel and Grandma and Arabian Horses at the Summer Show Part 6

Part 1 at the Summer Show
Even after Rachel's meltdown, we still had lots of horse show left at the Daffodil Arabian Summer Show I had a ride on the Arabian horse in the PB Western Pleasure AAOTR 40 & over class that evening. Then Rachel had classes in the morning with the mare, Scandalous Hope. Followed by championship classes for both Rachel and I in the afternoon.

The reason I had entered classes riding the gelding was so that I could school him and fix whatever issues might have developed from Rachel's rides. After their afternoon performances I was glad that I had the opportunity even though I knew the horse would be tired.

My classes are always the largest at the horse show. Baby boomers showing their first horses seem to be the biggest portion of those classes although there are a few riders who do their own training like me. Dandy is intimidated in traffic so the larger classes always add a new dimension to the ride for this particular Arabian horse.

Dandy also doesn't like the designated warm-up at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. It is narrow and if any horse is really naughty there is no place for the others to go to stay out of the way. Because of this I warm him up in the area out behind the main show arena right next to the barns. This is where we fell this spring.

To say that the fall doesn't flash through my mind
when I school the horse out in that arena, would be a lie. I think of it each time I get on him. It was such a scary fall, I guess it'll be with me for a while. But I still continue to warm my horse up there because it is where he is most comfortable.

To be continued........

Part 7

The first post of the Rachel and Grandma and an Arabian Horse series was posted several months ago and documents Rachel's journey on her way to her dream of competing one day at the Arabian and Half Arabian US National Championship Show.

  2. looking good!

taking a fall isnt something that is easily forgotten.

Your right on baby boomers classes being the largest. The competition is also the toughest.
