Spring Treasures

I'm way too tired to write but thought I'd share this pic I got by email today from my friend, Bev. This is her mare, Sylvia, with her new colt born Tuesday morning. Bev is pretty excited about this new boy and so is Sylvia. I can't wait to see him in person.

Bev is now done with her foalings for the season. I haven't even gotten started yet. But as tired as I am tonight, I'm grateful that foal watch is still a ways down the road. Although I can hardly wait for a spring treasure of my own.

  1. Oh how cute! I just love the newborns.

I'm on foal watch, have been lol. I'll be on foal until it looks like late August. I have a few late foals this year.

At least you didn't have about 6 weeks of kid watch (14 baby goat kids! and two more does left to go), followed by a projected 4 months of foal watch. Oh wait and they overlap too lol :)

When is your mare due by the way? Wasn't it next month?

  4. After having about 10 babies three years ago to only one two years ago and none last year my husband got his way and we bred a few mares last year. Of the two that came back from Iowa, one aborted at 150 days and the other doesnt seem to have taken, so it will only be two mares here out of the 3that we bred to our predominantly white stallion. I have to say I am also having withdrawals but they are both going to be June babies as we bred quite late. With the way the market is at the moment I didn't want to breed at all to be honest as much as I love having baby horses around LOL.
