The Baby Boomer Takes a Post Shortcut!

OK, I can't help myself here. I've spent way too much time today on Mare Stare working at getting my live webcam set up and chatting with old friends to do justice to my Mike Neal post. But while visiting in the Mare Stare chatroom one of my friends shared this link Ellen Degeneres rides with Stacy Westfall and I couldn't resist posting it.

Hopefull you'll be more obsevant than I and realize there are two video boxes to watch. The first one is Ellen introducing Stacy and her bridleless mare and in the second one Ellen herself rides that mare. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be invited to ride Stacy's great mare but Ellen didn't do half bad for a green horn.

Tomorrow, I promise I'll post the first part on Mike's clinic. I got some great pictures today of his belly band theory that I think will be useful in understanding how it works. In the meantime, watch Ellen and enjoy. I am soooooooooo jealous!!

  1. Dare I show this to Smem? She already handles the girls on the ground without a headcollar, always forgets to tie them securely and rides them in from the field in just a headcollar. I guess it's only a matter of time before she tries this!

  2. Wow, the first video was amazing to watch - no saddle or reins. And the horse was beautiful looking. Question - does a horse give away how its feeling in its tail like dogs do?

  3. Ellen didn't do bad at all, but then again what a great mare Roxy is. That horse is trained so well, and she looks like a real sweetheart. I'm sure my quarter horse Dusty could do the same thing, and I can see myself riding around with no bridle and no saddle. Yeah right, just kidding here, Dusty would dump me in a heartbeat. Thanks for the videos.

  4. I dvr'd the ellen show JUST for the stacey westfall appearance (do I have to admit I fast forwarded through the rest??)

Ellen was hysterical. I loved when she started to spin her to the right and Roxy really started to turn, Ellen started saying "whoa" "whoa". It made me giggle.

  6. Ok, Not sure if my comment went to you or not, because I thought I was logged in but wasn't. So here goes again. I don't watch Ellen generally, however, I heard that Stacey was going to be on and had to tune in. Stacey is going to be at the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison in April and I'm going to see her. I think she's a phenominal woman and what a great horse. There's also a Mustang Challenge that I'm looking forward to see. Can't wait!!!

  7. Ellen looked great! She sat that spin quite well, I thought. Heck, I feel like I'm going to slip right out of the saddle half the time, lol!

Thanks for posting the link; I'd hoped to see it but missed the show Friday.

  8. Thanks for the link! I was really disappointed when I realized that I had missed the show on Friday. My dream is to gallop bareback and bridleless one day (and stay on the horse).

  10. Oh we watched it! Me and my friend stopped training on her horse to come in and see it! She was great! I would have loved to ride Roxy! Stacey has given me all kinds of new goals for myself and my mare. We will see, she did say it took her 2 years to go bridleless and 1 more year to ride bareback. I think it is the ultimate experience to have with your horse. The respect, control, freedom. And to the lady that asked about Roxy's tail-yes she is enjoying it and she licks the whole time as well. You can tell Roxy is in her elimate! Thanks for sharing!

  11. I thought that the most impressive part of all was Stacy saying it was over 800 hours of training to accomplish that goal - at least an hour every day. That was really inspirational to me.
